Take Flight

Molly Dill is the first person to reach out to me directly from the blog website (woohoo go Molly!). Read on to learn more about how Molly is making her dreams take flight ✈️ below.

Molly is currently a junior at MSU Denver studying aviation & aerospace management with a minor in International Business with plans to graduate in May 2022. In addition, Molly is also the front office assistant for the Aviation & Aerospace Department and the president of American Association of Airport Executives AAAE.

About

“I would like to be in land side operations at the airport. This means that I would like to facilitate movement of people and vehicles at an airport through continuous monitoring of roadways and facilities with a focus on mitigating traffic impacts during incidents, peak periods, and construction activities. I'm interested in this career because I pushed wheelchairs at the airport and liked it even though it was hard work. In my free time I like to do yoga, play with my dog, cook, workout, swim, and travel. I also help Italians learn English.”

What do you think the biggest barrier you have faced so far has been in achieving your career goals?

“The biggest barrier to achieving my goals has been Covid.”

What advice would you give to another woman who is trying to break into the same industry you are in?

“Have patience, network, and don't worry so much.”

What advice would you give to another woman who is trying to break into the same industry you are in?

“Perseverance and create a support group of women in the industry. For a woman going into a predominately male-dominated industry it is harder, but if it what you are passionate about it, it's worth the extra effort. I applied and emailed my current supervisor 5-6 times before getting an interview. Eventually I got an interview and then the job!”

Final tips/advice:

“It's better to try and know than to not try and never know.”

Overall, I think Molly is well on her way to making her dreams come true (or take flight ✈️ if you will) and understands what it takes to take on a male-dominated industry. I can tell she is resilient, and I think that is super important in taking on an industry like hers.
