Marketing Success In uncertain Times
Yadeth is a 23-year old CU Boulder graduate I met while in our sorority, Alpha Chi Omega at CU Boulder. Yadeth took me on as her “little” (we are the same age though lol) and has always been a mentor towards me, regardless of age. She graduated in May 2020 with a Bachelor’s of Science with a Strategic Communications degree, an emphasis in Media Design and a minor in Communications.
About
“I’ve always been interested in designing and creative concepts so I knew I wanted to [be in a] career path where I would be able to create things. Since I was little I loved art, and I loved painting, so with graphic design I can do that. At the moment I do freelance (websites, logos, social media marketing, etc.). With my major, I always knew I was going to be spending a lot of time on my computer so COVID was no big deal (in regards to work being online). I like freelance because it allows a lot of flexibility with my schedule. In the future I would like to own my own business.”
What do you think have been the biggest barriers you have faced so far in achieving your goals?
”I think I have been very fortunate where the career that I chose is very female oriented. A lot of the big players in the industry are men, but I think now you see more women being CEOs, so I’ve never been too discouraged in that sense. With this career, and with any career, knowledge is power, and there is just so much to learn! I think I would say that that is the biggest barrier. Just an example, some colleges and programs have stronger design programs so those students have more knowledge than a school with a relatively new design program. I think I had pretty good professors but at the end of the day this is a career where a lot of what you learn you have to learn on your own.”
What would you tell a younger version of you?
“I mean I would tell my current self this as well…it’s okay to make mistakes, your voice should always be heard, and your time and energy are valuable, invest it in people who are willing to invest in you. I think that goes hand-in-hand with making sure that you surround yourself with people who help you grow rather than keep you stagnant.”
What advice would you give to another woman who is trying to break into the same industry you are in?
“I would mainly say to learn as much as you can and constantly find ways to reinvent yourself creatively. Constantly learn how to do new things, ask questions, and learn from those who have more experience!”
Final tips/advice:
“My mom actually printed this out and gave my sister and I copies, I think she got it from a ted talk or something lol”

Overall, I think Yadeth is well on her way to a successful career and gave some great advice to future female entrepreneurs in the marketing industry. She is confident and hard-working which is something I think is a definite plus for that industry, as well as keeping up with current trends and continuing to learn (even after you finish school!)
